[ Mother's Day ]

My mom is the most amazing woman I have ever had the privilege of knowing. What's pretty cool is that she's MY mom! I feel pretty darn lucky, if I don't say so myself :)
My mom made a ton of sacrifices for both me and my brother, and I don't know if I'll ever be able to repay her for everything she's done for me. It's one of the (few) things that scares me about having kids-- that I won't be able to be as cool as she was! LOL

On top of being an amazing friend, wife, homemaker, cook, and woman of God, she was also my teacher! Yes, my teacher. She passed up what could have been a very successful career in nutrition in order to homeschool both me and my brother in junior high & high school.

Our education was not ordinary, it was extra ordinary in my opinion. We were able to start taking college classes in high school, explore the great outdoors when other people were in school, have a hands-on approach to academics, learn things that are not necessarily taught in a classroom, and have hot lunches (woot woot).

I wouldn't have traded it for the world. I took a lot of my childhood for granted, and when I moved out and got married and realized just how hard it is to be an "adult," I really started to appreciate my mom in a whole new way. Now that I've moved out-of-state, it's accelerated to a whole new level. I think that's one of the most beautiful things about living away from your family-- you really appreciate them more and don't take the little things for granted.
We were blessed to be in town for this Mother's Day 2011, as it aligned with our trip home for Joshua's graduation party/our going away party. We were able to spend the morning with his mom (who's a really fabulous mom herself, I should add) and his side of the family for breakfast at a quaint, adorable place for breakfast called Janet's in Alpine. Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with us to capture any shots! :(

After breakfast, we met up with my family for a lovely hike around Lake Poway. Happy Mother's Day, Mom. You're the best!
