[ Assumptions vs Reality ]

"Assumptions are the termites of relationships."
- Rev Run Wisdom

I recently read this re-tweet (yes, re-tweet-- I do not follow Rev Run, bwahaha) from a certain celebrity I follow on Twitter (I know, I know, I stalk those celebs). It really struck a chord with me because I do this way too much.

I assume something about a person or a situation, I over-think it, and it eats me up.
Half of the time, I don't even know all of the information

My darling husband will be the first to tell you that probably one of my biggest faults is that I over-analyze things. My brain is constantly thinking, turning, and brainstorming... it's super hard for me to not cut up a problem on the operating room table in my mind, dissect it every possible way, and dissect it some more. Is it a woman thing? It's a problem.

Jesus is our perfect example of one who assumed the best of others. He was a man who thought the best of people, who showed grace freely, and who loved deeply.

"Summing it all up, friends, I'd say you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious— the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies." - Philippians 4:8 (MSG)

Everyone, me included: Let's assume the best of others. And as my amazing mom would say, "What's the truth of the situation?" :) On blogs, on Facebook, wherever. Let's stop eating ourselves up by comparing ourselves to what we think is going in someones life and comparing it to our own. We don't know what other people are going through. What's that quote... "Be kind for everyone is fighting a battle"? Battle indeed. Let's be kind, show the love of Jesus, communicate graciously, think the best of others, and forgive much. I am guilty.
