Scenes From The Weekend... And On Losing Control

On Sunday, we put Eden in one of her fun little Halloween outfits and headed out to a local farm with a pumpkin patch, corn maze, hay and pony rides for kids and tasty delicious fair-style food. We didn't stay long because, really, what is there to do when your child is only 2 months old and does not participate in the said activities? (Did you notice I said 2 months old, 2 months old, what?!)

Regardless, we made a fun afternoon of it and I have to say it kind of hit us hard that we are at this stage in our lives where we are actually those people. The people with the diaper bag and the stroller and the baby. We're in a whole new group now and it's fun. This was the first outing we've done since Eden's birth that was "kid-related" and I have to say that we really enjoyed taking it all in and watching our little munchkin look around and take it all in, too. So much joy she brings to us!

As a new mom, God is continually teaching me to surrender control to Him. Not only do I see my need for God on a daily basis more, but I've come to understand the depth of his love for me more. I've always been a controlled, organized, type-A kind of person that loves routine, day planners and consistency. Joshua knows not to plan any kind of surprise for me because it just does not suit me well. I like to know what to expect, how to plan for it and so forth. Having a child has stretched me in all those areas and it's continuing to do so.

I know as Eden gets bigger and more active, I will be stretched even more. Right now, I'm learning to go with the flow more and accept that not everything will be "just so." My house won't always feel de-cluttered, there might always be piles of laundry just waiting to get put away on the chair in our bedroom and my to do list might feel 10 miles long, but she's worth it and losing control of it all is worth it.

Just when I start to think I'm getting the hang of this mom thing, God literally hits me over the head with a new lesson that He's teaching me... that He's got this, and that I need to surrender control. It always goes better when I led Him lead and not me, anyway.

Add this to the growing list of "mommy lessons" that is starting to stack real high...
